Bibliography

The references below have contributed to my research on this project. They are by no means exhaustive. The field of anatomy and dissection is vast and remains a huge stratum of the history and philosophy of medicine. In the UK, probably the richest library resource is the Wellcome Trust, which is both accessible and committed to public understanding of medical science. Meanwhile, cultural historians, some of whom are included below, have contributed to our understanding of the cultural significance of ideas around the body, the corpse and the cadaver.
